Abertay signs up for Absoft's HR and Payroll shared service software for higher education

The University of Abertay Dundee has signed up to a new HR/ Payroll software solution run and hosted by leading independent SAP consultancy Absoft, which specialises in serving the higher education sector.

The new solution offers the institution major cost and energy savings in crucial organisational operations.

The system will be hosted on servers located at Absoft’s UK data centre – which can then be remotely accessed by desktop computers in offices anywhere in the world. Abertay intends to begin using the service before the end of the year.

Absoft managing director, Ian Mechie, says the development allows clients to access world class HR/ Payroll software, while avoiding the substantial implementation costs associated with installing such systems on-site, and minimising ongoing operational bills.

Based on SAP – the world’s leading HR/ Payroll software and the product of more than 30 years’ public and private sector experience – the shared service incorporates the full complement of best practice processes relevant to the higher education sector.

Ian Mechie, managing director of Absoft, says: "Budgets are being severely cut in higher and further education institutions across the UK however, no one wants to see efficiency or results negatively affected.

"No department will feel the pressure more than HR, with staff costs making up more than 50% of a typical university’s annual expenditure.

"With our HR/ Payroll shared service offering, Abertay will have access to the rich functionality within SAP without the need to install new server equipment within the walls of the university itself. This has the potential to deliver significant savings in time and cost.

“The shared service delivery method will contribute to greater energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint at Abertay, as well as guaranteeing system security, continuity and legislative compliance. Crucially, the solution can be scaled to meet the future demands of the university, protecting Abertay’s investment in the long term.”

The University of Abertay Dundee is a renowned centre of excellence for educational innovation, offering degrees in a wide range of technology, science and business-related disciplines, and the city of Dundee has built a reputation for innovation in the sector.

Absoft will be showcasing the shared service at stand 18 in the UCISA (Universities and Colleges Information Systems Association) CISG (Corporate Information Systems Group) exhibition at the Hilton Brighton Metropole, from November 3 – 4, 2010.
