Career History
I graduated in 2002, from the National University of Science and Technology (NAST), Pakistan. My first graduate job was as a software developer for IT consultancy; Jintech Pvt. Ltd (Pakistan). I joined Absoft in June 2006, from PIFRA (Project to Improve Financial Reporting and Auditing), a project, funded by the World Bank. The project was an SAP HR & FI implementation for the Government of Pakistan. Prior to working at PIFRA, I worked for six months with Siemens (Pakistan) as an SAP Development Consultant, where I completed my SAP ABAP Certification.
I had always been interested in working in the UK to explore new technologies and gain international experience, so with my contract ending at PIFRA, I gained my HSMP visa and started to look into the UK SAP job market. I discovered Absoft, applied and was given the opportunity to join the company as Development Team Lead.
Having successfully worked in the team for two years, my knowledge and skills have grown and my leadership and interpersonal skills have vastly improved. I now have a strong team of six, which is growing due to the expansion of our customer base!
What does your job involve?
I am the first point of contact for all the ABAP Developers at Absoft. I provide technical specification and project estimates and plan these resources in support of the Resources Manager. Recently, I became part of the interview panel for Development Consultants. I enjoy mentoring new team members and also fresh graduates through their development.
Best bits
It is very exciting both leading a strong team and managing a variety of Absoft customers; from oil and gas companies, to manufacturing businesses and higher education institutions. I found ABAP development to be the natural fit to my skills; working on different technologies, learning new business processes and applying my knowledge to meet clients’ requirements motivates me greatly.
Worst bits
When the team are experiencing busy times, life as the Team Lead can be a bit stressful, in particular when coordinating the needs of both individuals and the company. However, the success of a completed project and the gratitude from my team is always a good reward.
Advice to others
SAP is the leading ERP solution and a whole world in itself. If you choose to learn in this field, you will be guaranteed a wealth of opportunities. Absoft assures these opportunities through its diverse customer base and the wide range of services that the company provides.
