Roughly 70% of the University of Stirling’s financial overhead comprises employment costs; accurate cost planning and control are essential.
Historically, annual salary budgets were prepared in Excel spreadsheets using information extracted from the University’s SAP system. The two-month process devoured substantial manpower and bore several sources of inaccuracy.
A desire for near-100% accuracy and longer range budgeting motivated a decision to develop a new Personnel Cost Planning system.
Absoft’s consultants configured the standard SAP budget planning functionality to match the University’s requirements as far as possible – delivering capability for roughly 90% budget accuracy. The remaining 10% was fulfilled by writing and amending programs to meet requirements not achievable via standard SAP.
