RasGas project heralds expanding Middle East SAP activity for Absoft

Scottish SAP agents Absoft have announced the successful completion of a major SAP upgrade project at Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company (RasGas) in Qatar.  The Aberdeen-based software company provided a small but highly specialised team of consultants to work with RasGas, upgrading the 500-user SAP system from version 3.0F to version 4.5B.  The project was delivered on time and to a fixed budget.

Working closely with RasGas staff, Absoft’s 4-man team upgraded SAP functional modules covering materials management, financial control, plant maintenance, human resources, sales and distribution and warehouse management.

The upgrade has delivered a large number of enhancements required by RasGas’s various business units, and puts the company in a position to benefit from a significant range of additional functions provided by 4.5B release of SAP R/3.

RasGas, a subsidiary of the state-owned Qatar General Petroleum Company, have utilised consultancy skills from Absoft for the past two years.  The upgrade project marks a strengthening of the relationship between the two companies and confirms RasGas’s high level of confidence in Absoft’s SAP capabilities.

“To address the upgrade project, we required a partner offering a combination of strong SAP expertise, a firm understanding of our business practices and – most importantly - the ability to work successfully on a team basis with our own staff.  Absoft’s strengths in these areas and their solid track record meant that we knew we could rely on them to work closely with us to achieve a smooth and successful upgrade.” said Erhama Al Kaabi, Head of Applications at RasGas.

Absoft’s Business Development Director Frank Park commented, “Absoft have gained extensive experience in SAP upgrade projects over the years, particularly in the oil and gas sector.  We have a number of clients and associates in the Middle East and building our presence in this area is a key part of the Absoft’s strategic objectives.”

“Securing the RasGas contract represented a major milestone in Absoft’s operations in the region and we intend to increase levels of activity substantially there this year, drawing on a mixture of both locally-based resources and Absoft staff.” he continued.
