New SAP supply chain forum established

A new forum focused on making the most of SAP business software has been created for the upstream oil and gas industry supply chain.

Aberdeen-based SAP software consultancy Absoft has co-ordinated the formation of the group, the first meeting of which is being held at the company’s offices in Bridge of Don tomorrow (June 28).

The purpose of the forum is to allow businesses that use SAP to share best practice and discuss common supply chain related issues.

A preliminary meeting involving representatives of a number of operators and service companies was held earlier this month to discuss the viability of the forum and agree the objectives and format.  The aim of the inaugural session this week will be to gather input from attendees about their respective business challenges and determine topics for forthcoming sessions.

Absoft Operations Director Don Valentine said: “The forum is the first of its kind in the region and will be driven by the companies that take part.

“Absoft initiated the first meeting in response to requests from our own client base and it was agreed that we would continue to act as a facilitator going forward.  SAP is used by a significant number of energy companies and it was felt that creating an arena for discussion of good practice and topical issues would be useful for all concerned and help businesses to make the most of their software investment.”

It is anticipated meetings will be held on a monthly basis, hosted in rotation by participating companies.
