Competency in focus at city seminar

The link between effective personnel management and business performance will be the central theme of an Aberdeen seminar next month.

Leading Aberdeen software company Absoft is to host the breakfast event on March 14 focusing on the importance of staff competency and its role in increasing profitability.

Absoft Managing Director Ian Mechie said: “Research in recent times has shown a clear link between effective people management and organisational performance as measured by profitability and productivity – to the extent it can enhance business profitability by up to 15%.

“The skills shortage in the oil & gas sector puts even more emphasis on competency, given the impact it can have on attracting and retaining personnel and enhancing corporate performance.

“The seminar is designed for operational and HR managers who want to explore competency management as a means of increasing profitability.”

The event is being staged in conjunction with The Robert Gordon University (RGU) at the city’s Norwood Hall Hotel.

It will feature a demonstration of Absoft’s SAP-based software solution Advantage Competency for Oil and Gas, and a first-hand account of the key benefits of the software will be provided by one of Absoft’s customers, a leading drilling contractor.

Jim Cheetham, lecturer in managing change in human resource management at RGU’s Aberdeen Business School, will speak about the strategic importance of effective competency management in today’s fast-moving and highly-competitive global business environment.
