Conoco (U.K.) Limited, the British exploration and production affiliate of Conoco Inc., (NYSE:COC.A) (NYSE:COC.B) has selected Aberdeen-based SAP specialist Absoft to assist it on a key business system project – upgrading from the mainframe based SAP R/2 system to client-server based R/3.
Conoco has been using R/2 successfully for over seven years to support its business in the areas of finance, logistics, and maintenance. However, the move to R/3 is intended to deliver greater value-driven benefits, through access to more sophisticated functionality and increased user-friendliness.
Working in partnership with Conoco’s in-house team, Absoft has been tasked with providing key consultancy services to carry out the conceptual design of the R/3 system and deliver the implementation plan.
Commenting on the upgrade, Dave Cummings, SAP R/3 Project Manager at Conoco said: “SAP R/3, or an equivalent ERP tool, is used by most if not all of our competitors, so it is how we in Conoco use it to improve our business processes that creates a competitive advantage. A major focus for the implementation team is creating a sustained business engagement for the SAP R/3 project within Conoco. This engagement is essential in order to deliver a product that is owned by the business and not by the SAP team. A carefully planned implementation of SAP R/3 is vital to unlocking true business benefits. With its combined oil industry and SAP experience, Absoft is set to play a key part in guiding us through this planning process, with a focus on delivering this increased competitive advantage.”
Absoft’s Managing Director Ian Mechie said: “I’m delighted to see Absoft’s SAP activities continue to expand. The Conoco project serves to strengthen our position as a leading specialist SAP consultancy within the oil and gas sector.”
SAP’s R/3 software is used by all oil and gas sector companies in the top fifty of Fortune’s Global 500 and has been implemented by over five hundred oil and gas organisations worldwide since its initial release in 1992.
