Leading independent SAP consultancy Absoft is responding to rising demand to provide process and systems support to energy sector operators and service companies trying to achieve cost savings while rationalising their resources.

The Aberdeen-headquartered specialist SAP provider has created a new upstream consulting business line to service the market, as operators and supply chain companies look to address a growing skills gap.

Cost pressures in upstream oil and gas have led to significant savings being sought, but with the need to find increases in operational efficiency – Absoft made the move to deliver the ad-hoc support and optimisation initiatives needed by those companies experiencing a squeeze on internal resources.

Absoft’s extensive global expertise in HR and payroll, joint venture accounting, remote logistics and inventory management, and the mergers and acquisitions marketplace has seen it secure three support contracts with operators in the past month.

“Operators and service companies are facing continued pressure to improve efficiency and achieve cost savings, opening up a significant market for us in a consultancy role,” says Don Valentine, commercial director at Absoft.

“In all areas, our focus is on supporting operational efficiency and cost-effective business process management – we have the agility and experience at all levels of the upstream energy operator and supply chain marketplace to be able to provide complete solutions for companies left with a skills gap, often at very short notice.

“Our service specialists are in a position to directly assist operators with SAP support and system or process enhancement needs where no in-house team is available – acting either as embedded experts, or as ad-hoc remote support.”

The demand-led service line is focussed on providing flexible advice and trouble-shooting for processes which primarily act in support of operational teams, ensuring that companies do not suffer a loss of production or wrench time whilst driving forward efficiency initiatives.

“Operators invest significant resource in their upstream teams on and offshore, focussed on delivering enhanced recovery of hydrocarbons worldwide – access to flexible SAP consultancy and service provided by our teams allows them to maintain that focus with confidence that key functions are being maintained and critical areas of system or process inefficiency are being identified and resolved,” adds Mr Valentine.
