Case Study: Bespoke SAP Maintenance Planning for Chevron

Chevron issued new worldwide corporate standards for SAP maintenance planning. Impetus for change was already growing in Chevron, and the new standards gave further cause for action. Their previous system involved the use of various spreadsheets complementing SAP’s maintenance planning functionality. Its output was essentially a list of tasks. The safety critical tasks were under control, but otherwise technicians could choose tasks off the list. There was room for huge improvement. Commercial and operational factors were not motivating scheduling decisions.

Our case study covers the key aspects of the SAP maintenance planning we performed for Chevron. This includes how we refined and fulfilled requirements, training, testing and finally how these changes benefitted the company.

This SAP tool means maintenance planners now have more time to focus on key aspects of the job. Monitoring the quality of data entered and ensuring that reports are closed out properly by vendors is also now readily available. This is principally because the planning process now occupies only half a day per week rather than three days every two weeks.
