With the help of local IT consultancy Absoft, Aberdeen’s Margaret Muir has raised a total of ÂŁ2,500 for UK charity “Children with Leukaemia”.
Margaret, who is Head of Cost Control at Total Exploration and Production UK, completed the New York marathon on 2nd November in just under five and a half hours. She joined 35,000 participants in the event, who were cheered on by more than 2 million spectators lining the streets of New York City’s five boroughs.
Margaret is a keen long distance runner and completed her first marathon at Loch Ness earlier this year, in preparation for the event in New York. “I turned 40 this year, and wanted to do something special to mark that milestone. Entering the New York marathon seemed an ideal way to achieve my goal – and at the same time raise money for charity.”
Absoft has been a key supplier of IT consultancy services to Total for over a decade and Margaret has close links with the company. Absoft staff sponsored Margaret individually and the company doubled the amount raised, to reach a total contribution of £1,360.
Absoft’s Managing Director Ian Mechie commented: “We are delighted to have sponsored Margaret in her fundraising venture. Leukaemia is a disease that has unfortunately come to affect Absoft directly in recent times and we are pleased to support this very worthy cause.”
Children with Leukaemia is dedicated exclusively to the research and treatment of childhood leukaemia, and to the welfare of leukaemic children and their families. Through a programme of national events and appeals, the Charity raises in excess of £5 million every year.
