The Centre for Entrepreneurship will be welcoming the creator of an award winning gluten free food brand, Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne, to deliver an entrepreneurship lecture at Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University this month.

Founder of Genius Foods, Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne, Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 at the Entrepreneurial Exchange Scotland awards, will deliver the prestigious lecture offering more than 300 students the opportunity to hear her success story.

The Price Waterhouse Cooper Private Businesswoman of the year 2012, Ernst & Young UK Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year 2013, and author of successful How to Cook for Food Allergies, decided to create a gluten-free loaf of bread after her son was diagnosed with the intolerance. After making her way through three ovens and many different combinations of ingredients Lucinda created a ground breaking, “tasty” loaf her son was happy to eat. This bread led to the creation of  Genius Foods, founded in 2007.

Since then Genius has become a well known brand which creates a range of free-from products ranging from seeded rolls, crumpets, pancakes, pastry and bread.

The renowned lecture series is now in its 18th year and has been sponsored by leading independent SAP software consultancy Absoft since 2002.

Ian Mechie, managing director of Absoft, says: “Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne is an incredibly successful entrepreneur who identified a gap in the market and was passionate about her work. She is rightly recognised as one of Scotland’s most successful businesswomen.

“Having Lucinda come to talk at RGU is adding to our growing list of high calibre guest speakers. It is important to promote the development of entrepreneurial skills among the next generation of business leaders and I have no doubt that listening to Lucinda’s story will be of great value to all who attend the lecture, myself included.”

Lucinda  Bruce-Gardyne said: “I’m incredibly honoured to have been approached to deliver  this prestigious lecture.  Ten years  ago I was presented with a situation which I had to resolve for my family and other people, like my son, who have to cut gluten from their diet. – I was determined to find a solution to the problem. Now I have a globally recognised brand which is just amazing.”

Rita Marcella, Dean of Aberdeen Business School, said: “We are very grateful to Lucinda  Bruce-Gardyne and Ian for taking the time to share their knowledge with our students.

“To be able to give students access to people of such a high calibre and with that degree of experience and success is just outstanding. Events like this are an important way of enhancing our programmes to prepare the innovative and entrepreneurial leaders of the future.”
